257 - All Good Things…
Here we are at the end of the longest story arc I ever tried. Although I never named it officially, I call it “Baby Swap” and it started back in strip #183, which makes it almost twice as long as my earlier long arc “Dragon Story”. I hope you all liked it. Things are now back to normal for the royal family, but the kids are a little bit older and a little bit wiser. The parents? They’re pretty much the same.
I’m going to take advantage of this break in the narrative to take a little break myself. I’ve never done this in nearly four and a half years, but I’m going to take a mini-hiatus which happens to coincide with the North American holiday season. What does that mean? It means no new strips until the beginning of 2010! Look for the next new strip on Monday, January 4th.
And finally, because that’s the kind of guy I am: anybody recognize the title of this strip? Not just from the expression (”All good things must come to an end”) but a pop-culture reference specifically. I eagerly await your guesses…

I believe you are making a Star Trek: The Next Generation reference. This was the same name given to the final episode of the series.

I cheated a bit (yay, Google :-), but…
The last episode of Star Trek The Next Generation?
It’s also a song by Nelly Furtado.

Well, good old Google gives a few choices. Numero uno would have to be the last episode of Star Trek NG with the same name. There is also a Nelly Furtado song with that title and a movie coming out soon with Kirstin Dunst. So unless the movie is about a royal family, my money is on the modestly geeky Trek reference. All three of you are correct! But since two of you admitted using Google, I guess that leaves Ketill as the defacto champion (no prizes will be awarded). I remember when that episode of ST:TNG came out, I thought it was a great title for a last episode. But don’t fret! The Crown Prince will definitely be back next year, and it won’t have anything to do with a wormhole (Deep Space Nine reference).

Ketill: That’s why you’re the champ! Let’s see if I can stump you next time…

Wooo, it’s been awesome watching the characters grow up. Alot of comics have their characters stay the same age for almost all of their strips/pages.

Toderico: Thanks for that feedback. I like to know that readers enjoy that aspect of the comic because it’s something that will continue in the future. Specifically, we’re going to start seing the Crown Prince doing a lot more talking…
By the way, you should all check out Toderico’s webcomic: Marshmallow Bears.
