A few things: Yes, the King is finally back, but only for a brief appearance.  Next week, we go right back to see what the Black Duke and Sorceress are up to.  I think that was the longest consecutive stretch of strips without so much as a cameo by the King.

The joke here is an homage to Steve Martin’s movie The Man With Two Brains.  There’s a joke in it where he asks God to give him a sign if he’s making a the wrong decision.  I won’t explain it further.  You should go rent it.  “Any sign!” 

Finally, my technique for colouring the last panel was inspired by a lightning scene in the great comic One Swoop Fell.  I didn’t do anywhere near as good a job as Mike Dutton did, but I had fun trying to recreate it in my own poor-man’s version.  If you’re not reading OFS yet, well, I don’t know what to tell you.
