A Medieval Hello

A big medieval hello to everyone over at The Society for Creative Anachronism!  I understand that someone there stumbled on my site and shared the link with a bunch of fellow members, who have been dropping by over the past week.

Who are they?  Well, this is from their site: “The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Our “royalty” hold courts at which they recognize and honor members for their contributions to the group.

    Hi
I’m one of those SCA folks who heard through the grapevine about your comic.
Its made me laugh out loud more than once, and made a bad day at work better as I got as far as I could reading from strip 1.

Well done. I really miss “DM of the Rings”, a comic that closed, so you’ve filled a hole in my heart!

  2. JG Says:

    Rebecca: Greetings!

I’m not familiar with “DM of the Rings”, but I’m guessing you are already a follower of Order of the Stick. It’s a must-read for anybody who used to play Dungeons & Dragons. While The Crown Prince doesn’t really have any D&D/RPG gamer references, let’s just say we’re all mucking about in the same mudpit!

  3. Traolach Says:

Oh darn, was that my fault? A Bunch of notes coming out of Caid? (southern California)

  4. JG Says:

Traolach: I’m not sure where all the e-mails started, but if you want to take the “blame”, feel free. As well, if you ever feel like sending another link to this site to a large mailing list, feel free to do that too!

  5. Traolach Says:

Honestly, I don’t remember if i sent it to the Barony of Calafia mailing list (San Diego and Imperial counties) or the Kingdom of Caid mailing list (SoCal, Las Vegas and Hawaii)

I was just amazed I hadn’t seen it on either before, especially with Crowns and former Crowns having children reciently.

  6. Ketill Says:

    Yeah, Traolach!

    It’s ALL *your* fault!!

But I would not have read it from the beginning to the end unless it was a very enjoyable comic.

    Kudos to the creator!

    Ketill

  7. Traolach Says:

Well, at least I know someone was paying attention. Do you think we can talk them into adding some Penguins?

  8. JG Says:

Okay, you guys have completely lost me. Penguins???

  9. Ketill Says:

Penguins. You know, those flightless birds that hang around Antarctica?

(It’s a reference to _Bloom County_ … at least that’s how *I* am taking it.)

Yeah, I wrote *Bloom County* and not Opus. Hey, I’m old. Sue me.

  10. JG Says:

Ketill: Bloom County really rocked. My brother turned me onto it and it was a regular favourite of ours for its entire newspaper run. For those of you who have never enjoyed it, try to find the collections at your local bookstore or online book vendor. Just like Bill Watterson of Calvin & Hobbes, Berkeley Breathed quit Bloom County when he was at the top of his game. He has since worked on the sunday color comic Opus (featuring the popular penguin from Bloom County, and possibly the explanation for the penguins reference above).

  11. Traolach Says:

Death to the War monkey’s Ketill!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Blom County, thats your stoy and yur sticking to it right?

  12. Traolach Says:

And I notice we leave off any mention of Outland. Breathed was starting to drop off when he took his break.
