If you are at all interested in the use of clichés in fantasy and science fiction, you must absolutely, definitely, promptly go to TVTropes.org.  I’ve spent hours at this wiki, going through topic after topic with loads of examples from popular books, movies, comics and cartoons.  I’ve also certainly been inspired by the site.
