158 - Cookies

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everybody!  The green cookies in this strip are, as you have perhaps guessed, in honour of this day where everything is either green, Irish, or both.  I’m glad to see that my local McDonald’s is offering Shamrock Shakes this year.  Longtime readers may remember my feelings about dark ages where Shamrock Shakes were not available…

This week’s strip is somewhat based on a true story.  My wife and I have taught both our children sign language between the ages of roughly 6 and 18 months.  With my son, it would normally take a few days of repeating a sign over and over for him to catch on to it.  When he was about 16 months old, I whipped up a batch of my incomparable Spice Cookies (recipe available upon demand) and I gave him one.  While he was eating it, I showed him the sign for “cookie” (making the letter “C” with your hand).  I only did it once.  When he finished eating the cookie, he immediately and without hesitation did the sign!

I think this is also the longest number of consecutive strips in which the King does not appear.  But fret not; he returns next week.
